Sorry for the late trip report, I have
been getting the calendar ready for next
season’s diving.
We set out for the Flower Gardens with 16
tough fall divers, ready to hit it. The
weather couldn’t have cooperated better, and
we got to the West Bank and immediately got
down to looking for my wedding ring. What we
found was seas in the 2-4 foot range, water
temp 84, vis about 100 feet, and nurse
sharks, gag and scamp grouper, small
stingrays, and no wedding ring. With tears
in my eyes, we headed off to HI-389 for a
dive. When we got to 389, we tied off and
immediately fell into the platform, twice.
The current was opposing the wind, so we
went to dive the East Bank. We got to the
East Bank and tied off to buoy 6, one of my
favorites. We had a very large Manta Ray
show up and hang out with the crew for about
an hour, other life seen included a marbled
grouper, blacks, dog snapper, and the usual
little guys. Water temp was 82, seas 2-4,
vis over 100 feet, just great fall
conditions. We went to Stetson as usual
for Sunday morning. We had octopus, sharks,
lobster, eels, and captain Frank saw red
when the outboard quit running. All was
fixed, however, after adding Melanie to the
deck staff where she belongs, and the rest
of the day went as planned. Water temp was
82, seas 3-5, vis was 80-100 feet. Captain Frank
