We had our asses handed to us as we
pounded our way offshore with 19 intrepid
souls, but no-one puked on the way out
(bonus there), but we didn’t get much sleep,
either. We got to the west bank and tied to
buoy #1 for a couple of dives. I had a solo
diving student, so I had to get in the water
too, where I navigated a square, visited the
number 5 buoy, visited the number 2 buoy and
the Fling, and lost my wedding ring. The
person who recovers that ring will not have
to pay for Flower Gardens diving for a
while. Anyway, current was mild, seas were
in the 5 foot range, I saw a really cool
tiger grouper, and had a grand tour of the
west bank. I pulled up a weather report on
the internet and saw that the weather might
be better to the west, so we left the West
Bank and headed for Stetson.
We got to Stetson and tied to buoy #1. We
were besieged by manta rays (OK, 1 really,
but he hung out for the whole dive), saw our
resident loggerhead female, silky sharks,
and the usual Stetson residents, like
lobster and eels and everyone had a blast on
the night dive.
We moved to buoy number 4 for the morning
dives and many saw a hammerhead, unicorn
filefish, silkies, eels, and Bill saw a baby
toadfish. Brad missed the hammerhead,
because he slept in, but he heard all about
it from his Dad and buddies.
Even though it was a rough trip, everyone
had a great time, but gerri has a whole new
collection of ladder bruises. Captain
